“Be yourself because everybody else is already taken”
Being you, all of you is being beautiful, kind, loving, and inspiring. Each woman above has a personal journey and experiences that brought her to a place in mid-life where she can unapologetically be herself. I want to encourage you today to do the same because someone is waiting for you.
I find utter joy in seeking inspiration from others, as it has allowed me to be more of myself, let my #shieldsdown, and inspire you to do the same. When you see someone who appears to have it all together, are you quick to judge them for having more than you? Are you doubting yourself because of your circumstances? I guarantee if the person you see has it all together they did it with plenty of blood, sweat, and tears.
Every morning we wake up we have a choice. A choice to look at our day through the lens of gratitude or the heaviness of stress or sadness. We can choose to proactively seek goodness and inspiration or find the world a burden. At this moment we can keep ourselves attached to our yesterdays or look for the goodness in today.
We are all in a state of evolution, growth, but many times get stuck in the muck. Those I admire have been a work in progress their lives have been challenging, messy, and they took a lot of falls to get back up. They found the strength to drop the excuses, take action, ownership, and risks. They are open, honest, and vulnerable. We do not get to our 50’s without plenty of bumps, valleys, and for some a vast abyss. So, if we see someone who has it all together, it doesn’t mean it’s true. They too have had to ride the waves of life. No one has a perfect life, marriage, career, or family.
I am asking you to be open to seeing there is joy in the pain.
Imagine it this way – like giving birth to a child, you undergo everything from mild discomfort to excruciating pain and give birth to a loving child.
Can you see that you can give birth to new possibilities, a new way to be a better version of yourself than you were yesterday?
What are ways to see these possibilities?
- Make it a priority to seek inspiration and find meaning.
- Do not allow yourself to hold on to sadness like a badge of honor.
- Intentionally steer away from negativity because there is too much goodness and inspiration to focus on and lift us.
I have been in the abyss of attaching myself to regrets, “what if’s,” “yea buts,” and the “should have’s,” I guess it is part of being human. How lucky am I that I get to choose not to live there.
How lucky are you that you can look at life through dreams, faith, and as corny as this sounds magic?
Our time here really is short, and I believe we are here to live well, rise above adversity, to do good in the world. So, we better get busy taking care of our bodies, and minds because we are needed to do good. I can attest to others who with deep scars dug in and took the scary steps and chose not to stop, to be an example, to shine bright, to be healthy, and to take care of themselves first so they can experience living all out.
Even if you feel you have nothing to give, I dare you to try because SOMEONE is waiting for you to be their light, to lift them up, to show them what is possible. There is something only you have that makes you – YOU!
