Leptin is the hormone that regulates feeling satiated. Under “normal” conditions when you are relaxed your brain will signal that you are full and you can stop eating. However, when your metabolism and leptin are “off,” communication is unclear between the brain and the gut. If you are overweight, it is possible that your brain will not signal that feeling of fullness. The feeling of hunger may continue to rise and may cause an “addictive” pattern. One then may continue to overeat, possibly non-nutritious food, and extend the cycle of weight gain.
Another reason for leptin resistance is mindless emotional eating. You may find that you eat out of boredom, sadness, anger, frustration, or the thoughts you say to yourself about your body. When you use food to shove away the emotions, it may feel right at that moment, but it brings up more guilt and shame later. THAT BREAKS MY HEART! Life is life (yeah that sounds ridiculous), but there will always be things “happening” in life that demand attention.

What Can You Do Cut Off The Excess Hunger?

Commit to better sleep. Eliminate substances that disrupt normal circadian rhythms – like caffeine, alcohol, and screen time after dark. Sleep debt will increase your body fat! Without proper sleep hygiene, it is virtually impossible to lose fat.
Get outside early in the morning. Take a short easy walk after dinner. Get regular exercise 5 days a week, including two days a week of some resistance training.
